Security Update: Canvas Hacked Again
Dear Peralta Colleague,
We are writing to let you know that Instructure, the company that provides Canvas to the 116 California Community Colleges as well as other colleges, universities, and K-12 systems across the world, has been hacked again.
As a precaution, Peralta IT has cut off access to Canvas from the Peralta Portal while Instructure deals with this situation. Canvas has also taken their site down, including phone apps. If you do find a way to access Canvas, please DO NOT click any links from the hacking message, or any links in emails or messages having to do with Canvas until you are notified by Peralta that Canvas is up and running.
What you should do right now:
- Check your Peralta student email regularly. Your instructor will be reaching out with instructions for how your course will continue during this outage and will tell you about any changes to assignments, deadlines, or class meetings.
- Do not click any links related to Canvas until you receive official confirmation that Canvas is back up and running. This includes any links in emails or messages that appear to be from Canvas or Instructure.
- Attend class as scheduled. If your class meets online, your instructor may send you a Zoom link or alternative access information via your Peralta student email.
- Contact your instructor directly if you have urgent questions about your coursework.

We understand this is an inconvenience and appreciate your patience. District Technology and Online Education teams are standing by to help while Instructure works to restore full access to Canvas as quickly as possible. We will notify you as soon as Canvas is available again.
