Dear Peralta CCD Colleagues,
In staying true to my commitment to keep you all informed regarding the Interim Chancellor search process, I am pleased to share with you that our Governing Board approved a contract last night for Dr. Carla Walter to fill the position.
As you know, Dr. Walter has been serving as our Acting Chancellor since July 18, 2020. We appreciate her responsiveness in stepping into that role from her original position as Vice Chancellor of Finance and Administration. We are impressed by the calm professionalism Dr. Walter brings to her work. She also brings a fresh perspective to our District with over 20 years’ experience in higher education and municipal finance leadership. She has served in diverse roles—as professor, director, dean, chief operating officer, chief financial officer, and chief executive officer—and in diverse organizations—in community colleges, public and private universities, and municipal finance. In addition, Dr. Walter is an accomplished author, speaker, and advocate for the role of the arts in community and personal improvement. Both her BA in economics and her PhD are from the University of California, Riverside. She also holds an MBA from the California State University, San Bernardino.
As I have shared previously, since July we have conducted a thorough, if expedited search process to select the Interim Chancellor. We purposefully conducted this as a confidential search and made a commitment to protect the identity of applicants to maximize participation, given the timeline and gravity of issues facing our District. Nevertheless, we listened to and valued input from hundreds of faculty, staff, administrators, and community members in making our decision. So, let me again thank all of you who contributed to this process by participating in the survey and communicating your expectations and desires for our new interim chancellor. Let me also extend special appreciation to members of the Search Committee who devoted many hours to meetings, paper screening, interviews, and deliberation to send finalist to the Board for consideration.
Finally, a town hall is being planned for the next week or two. Please stay tuned for the date and time. Continued thanks for all your efforts to provide the best for our students, our colleges, and the communities we serve.
Sincerely,
Julina Bonilla
